10 Things You Should Avoid Doing On Friendster

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Friendster is a social networking site that I signed up a long time ago thanks to a friend who ‘told’ me to sign up for it. I have never been a fan of social networking sites for the simple reason that I don’t see myself needing it to survive. Most of the time it’s just to help out my friends get that extra +1 to their friends list – yeah it can be that important to them, see how I love you guys? I mean Friendster isn’t annoying per se, it’s the millions of people that use it everyday that makes it more and more annoying as time passes by. Here’s my top 10 list of things that you should avoid doing on Friendster.

Magazines, Magazines…Magazines

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

I have always been skeptical about getting ‘free stuff’ in the internet. But lately as I’ve been browsing several community forums (Specially the ones that cater to tech-junkies) they almost always have a ‘Free Stuff’ section where other people will post deals about stuff being given away at the cost of your name, e-mail, address, and other personal information.

Reaching 1 Million Views In The Case Mod Gallery On TechPowerUp

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

As most of you know I’m trying to reach 1 million views on the TechPowerUp Case Mod Gallery Page (Refer to this page). Well it’s been awhile and I lost interest in this ‘mini-mission’ that I’ve set up for myself. I’ve stopped at 55,000+ views which means I’m 945,000+ short of reaching my goal! I really want that 1 million views and so I’ll try and do it again. This time, I won’t get lazy and stop! 1 million views here I come.

Google Analytics On My Blog

Friday, September 26th, 2008

I’ve always been curious if there’s people that read my blog. Hahaha, so I installed Google Analytics! We’ll soon see if there’s actually people interested. Hahaha. And…I think I will change all my tags from now on, just to make them search engine friendly since most of the time I’ve just been copying and pasting the content title without actually dissecting them into more search engine friendly tags.

Stop Stealing My Resources

Friday, September 19th, 2008

First off, I know what hotlinking is and why it is a bad practice among use internet users. It is pretty much just like spamming since you never really ask for the owner of the bandwidth’s approval if you can use it or not.

Now it really didn’t hit me until now when I have had my dedicated server for almost a year now (Thanks to Josh from Centauri Communications). As most of you know by now, I’ve been hosting the JoinPGN.com web portal, my blog under JoinPGN.com, and a couple of game servers in this dedicated server, and most of the time…I’ve been trying to reduce how much resources I use when hosting these stuff. I’ve learned that everytime you add something, you also reduce the amount of resources available to you (Like adding a popular file for download).

So far I’m pretty sure that I’ve tweak it to about 95% efficiency (Guesstimate), the remaining 5% are just stuff that I don’t know yet when it comes to being a system administrator for my dedicated server.

Lately, my processes have gone up from 90-120 to 150-250. And this was the time after I got done offloading the httpd download server for the PGN servers to a free webhost (Yes I’ll be doing this from now on since it saves me resources…and I mean a lot). So I was like, what the heck? I already took off almost all the stuff that eats up my bandwidth how come the Apache processes and other stuff still hasn’t gone down?
