Stores Online sent me a letter of invitation to attend one of their 90 Minute Conferences that they have been doing all over the USA, Canada, and other countries. The topic was the benefits of selling items online and how easy it is to do it (With their help).
The speaker first talked about why the internet is one of the best places right now to sell goods and blah blah blah – I’m skipping that part since most of you guys already know it. And then he talked about how we need a website in order to sell items online. He then said that even if we have a website online it’s not good enough since basically it’s just a needle in a hay stack and what we need is some sort of web marketing. This way, when someone searches Google.com for a product our website would be one of the first websites in the list and not at the back of the list where people usually don’t even bother to look at.
First thing that I told myself is, Well at least he got that right., so he then asked us if we know it. Obviously majority of the people in that event don’t know how or else they wouldn’t be attending that event right? So the next thing that popped in at the back of my head is he will teach us how to optimize our website so that Search Engines like Google.com will rank our websites higher when it compares it to other websites that have the same content. I was excited since I always welcome new techniques on how to improve one’s website.
You know what he said?
He said something that really pissed me off. He didn’t try to teach us how to improve our website’s page rankings in Search Engines…instead he tried to sell us ‘their product’ which supposedly makes life easier if you want to start a business online since basically it is just like one of those ready-made websites that you purchase for $$$ dollars, in their case it was $190 plus a $24.95 per month payment for I guess the hosting or something (At this point I wasn’t even interested at all anymore).
I was completely dissapointed at how the 90 minute event turned out. Stores Online didn’t really want you to teach the fundamentals of web marketing they just wanted to sell you their product. It’s bullshit I tell you, all the speaker did was entice the people that attended that event about how you can earn money while you sleep (Passive Income), how you get to do things your way because you ‘are’ your the boss, et al. What good is a ready-made website complete with shopping carts and stuff if you basically don’t know how to improve it? Sure Stores Online offers a 24/7 support once you bought that ready-made website, but I mean come on…that’s just when you’re having technical difficulties with your website.
The speaker didn’t even mention about how the colours on your website can affect a potential buyer, or how ad placements can make a big difference…the orientation of your website…the use of certain words, et al. ‘Googling’ web marketing will land you a thousand websites that probably contain a lot more better information about how to sell stuff online.
I was really dissapointed, I really am. I was expecting a lot more from Stores Online but I guess their ultimate goal was not to teach you the fundamentals of web marketing but to just sell you their product. I left the event during the break where people were signing up for this pre-made websites crap. For me it was a complete waste of time.
I may still not know a lot about doing business online but I know one thing for sure…having a pre-made website isn’t enough to get your online business going.
