I’d post pictures but I can’t seem to find my Compact Flash card…I don’t know where I put it, hehehe. Anyway, I’m done sleeving the 24-pin cable and most of the cables. I ran out of heat shrink and I’ll probably buy a couple of 1/8″ tomorrow. I’m also going to order a lot of replacement screws for the case since most of the anodized finish is gone on some of them and it wouldn’t look good if I painted them, hopefully Lian Li sells them separately. Hopefully I can post pictures tomorrow since I’ve riveted most of the computer case.

Project Beauty & Madness (Part 12)
Saturday, February 28th, 2009Sleeving Cables Can Be A Big Pain In The Ass
Friday, February 27th, 2009Seriously, wow! I can’t believe I haven’t remove a single pin in the 24-pin connection from the PSU after one hour. I used to be able to sleeve PSU’s really fast but how come I can’t do it anymore? I’m used the stapler technique and I used the tools Iv’e bought to make sleeving easier but still! The freaking pins won’t buldge. I’m losing my patience…I really am.

Project Beauty & Madness (Part 11)
Wednesday, February 25th, 2009Finally! The final coat’s done and it’s time to rivet them all together again, I’m still waiting for the motherboard tray, fan grills, and screws so it will still be awhile. Anyway, I’ve been getting busier and busier lately and I am having less and less time for this project so updates may be slower now. Rest assured though that I’m going to finish this project. I have yet to have an unfinished project in my adult life!
Project Beauty & Madness (Part 10)
Wednesday, February 25th, 2009Almost everything is here now, and I’m about to do the final coat on the parts before I put on two to three coats of clear on them. I’ll take some pictures once I’m done with the final coat, I’ll probably be able to post it later if ever. Alas all I can show you guys is this…
Posting My Code Snippets
Wednesday, February 25th, 2009As most of you know, I am a Computer Science major and well…that just means I usually write code. So instead of just deleting my old stuff off my local hard drive, I will probably post them here. I’m warning you though, I’ll be posting most of my old code so they will look sloppy, and you’ll find all sorts of mistakes everywhere. I’m not posting them to show how good I am but I’m posting them so I can look back at how I was writing code from way back once a couple of years has passed, hehehe. I’m already laughing at myself when I opened some of them and I was like, I did that? hahaha. I’ve still got a long way to go and I have yet to find my favorite language.
Thinking About An External HDD
Friday, February 20th, 2009I hooked up the new system to try and salvage the files from when I first had the AMD 62 X2 4200+ system…and the best thing is…well, it booted up and I am now able to transfer files from the old system to their temporary home which is my laptop. So how do I prevent this from happening? I’m thinking about having an external HDD or just making a system that is low on power and runs 24/7. I’ll keep you guys posted as I’m kinda busy doing all this transfer crap right now. You know what sucks more? I’m doing it on a 4GB USB thumb drive since it’s the only one I have right now, oh how I wish I have an external enclosure so I could just plug this HDD in and transfer everything…sigh. I can’t have everything anyway right?
Project Beauty & Madness (Part 9)
Friday, February 20th, 2009All of the parts have been sanded and primed now except for the mobotherboard tray which I still have to cut three holes for cable management. I got to say it was fun drilling the rivets out…but putting them back in later on, I don’t think I’ll remember which one’s which! Hahaha! Here’s what they look like after being sanded and prime.
Project Beauty & Madness (Part 8)
Tuesday, February 17th, 2009I’ve finalized all the components that I will be using for this project and frankly, I’m trying to justify it to myself. Hahaha. I’ve been telling myself that it’s been awhile since I’ve built a PC…think years. So let’s have a rundown on all of the components!
Project Beauty & Madness (Part 7)
Monday, February 16th, 2009I just got done sanding every single part of the case that will be painted and I’ve already started priming some of them – like the HDD cage, no pictures though of those though. But I do have some pictures of some of the materials that I’ll be using! Anyway here are some of them…I’ll explain what their uses are as far as this project is concerned.
Project Beauty & Madness (Part 6)
Sunday, February 15th, 2009My Samsung NC10
Saturday, February 14th, 2009I’ve been dying to post this! I’ve been using this Netbook for almost a month now and all I can say is, this Netbook is great for taking down notes, making a quick check on the web, and doing a quick debug on your code. It’s the complete opposite to my HP DV9000 series laptop which is a desktop replacement laptop and thus it’s quite big…17″ to be exact. It’s a pain to carry around especially if you have a couple of books with you. But hey, it might be heavy but it’s the one I’m using right now while my desktop is offline. Anyway, without further ado…my first ever Netbook!
Project Beauty & Madness (Part 5)
Friday, February 13th, 2009I might not be able to do a lot of stuff this weekend as I have to do three application proposals next week and a couple other things that I have to do. Oh well, the good news is…I’m slowly getting the hardware now. I’ll probably post pictures tomorrow as I don’t want to open the box right now. Why? Because it’ll be a mess and since I got this OCD in me…I tend to do go crazy when I see things that aren’t where they’re supposed to be like let’s say an opened box on the floor, hahaha. I still got a long way to go with regards to cable sleeving since I still have to measure how far some cables are from the motherboard. But hey, at least I have a picture right?
Project Beauty & Madness (Part 4)
Monday, February 9th, 2009So I’ve decided that I will actually paint the interior and I’ve already bought a couple of materials for testing. That includes a white primer, a flat black paint, and a satin clear cloat. And as what most experienced painters would say, it’s all about prepping stuff properly, which is why I decided to buy a primer too. The satin clear cloat is to help protect the paint against fading. Now all I got to do is…take off some more stuff on the case since there’s still a couple of plastic/rubber stuff left. Again, it’s all about taking things slowly and not rushing into things…hahaha.
Project Beauty & Madness (Part 3)
Monday, February 9th, 2009The only thing that I’ve done so far is to sleeve the case wires and frankly I was only able to do a couple of them!. Why? Because I’m not in a rush and I’m only doing this when I have some free time available and I’m more into details now.
Project Beauty & Madness (Part 2)
Sunday, February 8th, 2009Aah, at last it’s time for part 2 of this project. I don’t have any pictures yet but I’ve bought a couple of new parts for this project. They’ll be replacing the old ones which I must say are really old…tihnk 2-3 years ago.
So what have I bought?
Making FLIQLO Work On Vista x86_64
Wednesday, February 4th, 2009If you guys don’t know what FLIQLO is then you’re a bit out of date, FLIQLO is an aesthetically pleasing screen saver for both Windows and Macs written by Yuji Adachi. The latest version is 1.1 and it was released on November 01, 2006. So it’s a couple of months earlier than the retail version of Windows Vista which was released on the first quarter of 2007. So what do those release dates got to do with my post? Well it just means that FLIQLO 1.1 wasn’t tested on Vista, specifically Vista’s 64 bit edition and that could only mean one thing, there’s a 50/50 chance that it might work on Vista x86_64 or not and unfortunately it’s the latter. Don’t worry though as the fix is relatively easy as it’s just a bunch of cut n’ paste!
A Promise I’m Trying To Keep
Monday, February 2nd, 2009Alright! Since I installed Vista x86_64 on my HP DV9000 series laptop again…I made a promise to myself. That I will be using the different kinds of open source alternatives for all my consumer applications. At first I think that it’ll be hard especially that I’ll basically be dumping Photoshop CS3 now for GIMP. And the first time I used GIMP, I was like blah…I can’t edit images properly, it’s not as polished as Photoshop CS3. But you know what? I installed GIMP right after I was done updating Vista x86_64 and my anti-virus and I was completely blown away. Now you hardcore GNU/Linux fans out there (See? I even used GNU/Linux instead of just saying Linux, hahaha.) may hate me for switching back to Microsoft’s Vista and your’e probably like…I thought everything works for you? To answer that, it’s because of my DSLR, file transfer is a lot faster when compared to GNU/Linux and I simply can’t wait especially if all the files total up to more than 2GB.
Anyway, I’ll be using GIMP from now on as opposed to using Photoshop CS3 last time. Once I’m done editing all the images I took ages ago, I’ll post them up.
