Reducing Spam In BattleForge

I always here people complain that there’s too many people talking in the trade, lfg (looking for group), beginner, and strategy channels in BattleForge and most of the time the screen just scrolls so fast that you can’t even read what is being said. Most of them don’t want to ‘auto-join’ these channels and would want an easy fix for it. Although there’s no in-game option for, there is a way!

All you have to do is go to your BattleForge folder under your Documents folder e.g. C:\Users\Rodo Abad\Documents\BattleForge and then look for the config.xml file. Open it and then go to line 13 (or at least that’s where mine is at). 1 is enabled and 0 is disabled so if you want to disable all the global channels when you connect just put 0.

<chat fontsize="1" autojointrade="0" autojoinlfg="0" autojoinbeginner="0" autojoinstrategy="0" />

Save the file, start up BattleForge and behold, no more fast scrolling text.

There’s also a couple of settings I’d like to point out…

  • mp_ignore_desync – Ignores desync message when you’re playing though you’ll still desync and the current game stops. You just don’t see the message.
  • skip_intro_movies – Disables the EA, AMD, and BattleForge intro movies. It’s handy if you’re like me who just wants to play as soon as possible.
  • ea_movie_watched – Same with skip_intro_movies.
