First off this does not concern you if you don’t live in the Philippines and if you are not using Globe Broadband. Most of you already know that I’m currently in the Philippines. Moreover, everyone knows I need an internet connection to survive at least a day anywhere…I don’t just need an internet connection I need a wireless internet connection since I don’t like walking around or not being able to move while using the internet.
I’m using Globe Broadband right now as my ISP and they’ve given me the PROLiNK Hurricane 5200 model as my modem. A wireless router wasn’t included so I went ahead and bought one since I really wanted to replace the crappy Edimax BR-6204WLg wireless modem that my Aunt used to have. Why do I think that it’s a crappywireless router? Because it takes forever for it to give your machine a local IP address. Second, the web interface just plain sucks. I’m already wired to the modem and I still get disconnected from time to time while accessing the local web interface. Now you loyal Edimax users might tell me that the Linksys WRH54G router sucks more but I beg to differ.
Anyway, I’m pretty sure that a lot of people using Globe Broadband plus a Wireless router gets this problem a lot the first time they try to setup a wireless network so I hope this helps.
First off, to access the PROLiNK modem’s web interface you need to use http://192.168.1.1. Now the problem is majority of the wireless routers will also use http://192.168.1.1 and that’s where the problem starts. So what’s the solution? All you have to do is change the local IP of your router to something else. For my part instead of 192.168.1.1, I used 192.168.2.1. This made it possible so that I can access both the PROLiNK modem and Linksys wireless router at the same time.
