JavaScript Benchmark: Google Chrome vs Mozilla Firefox vs Internet Explorer 8

I’ve been wanting to try Chrome ever since it was released but I was hesitant because I got used to Firefox’s (awesome) extensions. But since there are a couple of Chrome extensions now I decided to try it out.

Before I installed Chrome though, I google’d for benchmarks where Chrome is pitted against other popular browsers like FireFox, Internet Explorer 8, Opera, Safari, et al. Most of the benchmarks focus on how Chrome handles Javascript so I decided to try one of these online benchmarks myself. And here are the results…

Internet Explorer 8

Internet Explorer 8

Mozilla Firefox

Mozilla Firefox

and finally…

Google Chrome

Google Chrome

If for some reason the images don’t work, here’s a summary of the results.

77 +/-5 Internet Explorer 8

178 +/-9 Mozilla Firefox

504 +/-14 Google Chrome

My first impression (first iteration) was WHAT THE !@#$? which is why decided to run the test 10 times (good thing it averages them). I know…I know, synthetic benchmarks doesn’t mean !@#$ in the real world but still…even a non-professional like me would say that is fast. Even though it doesn’t really feel that fast when I’m browsing websites it still feels a lot snappier when compared to Firefox and Internet Explorer 8. I’m also surprised that I’m usually faster compared to the other users using the same browser so I don’t know if that’s important or not.

If you’re wondering what my setup is, here’s a CPU-Z screenshot.

P.S. There’s no Safari and Opera tests since I don’t use them. If you decided to test them, please post your results here! Thanks.
