So I just got an email from IRS (supposedly) telling me that I’m missing some information about my tax return and basically they locked my account. I then need to send the following to unlock my account – copy of email, notification letter (from the email’s attachment), and a photocopy of a federal/state issued ID like you know, a passport or driver’s license.

If I have this IRS mentality that they’re going to get me then I probably won’t be writing this blog post right now and I would be replying to their email with all the necessary information that they’ve requested. However, I could smell a phishing email from a mile away and here’s why.

The email is pretty damn convincing if all you do to check if it’s a phishing email or not is the from field. It’s from fucking irs.gov and that’s pretty damn convincing at first look. Most phishing emails come from something weird like irs.gov.retardeddomain.com or something close to that. They fucked up though because the email that they’ve sent it to was never used in any goverment-related stuff (yeah…stuff). So fuck off.

Second, too many damn spelling errors like identifiedas or recived. Lol. And last and probably the most important thing, if you’ve been to IRS.gov, then you damn well know that the IRS does not initiate taxpayer communications through email.

Go fuck yourself bitches. I just wish people do a research first on every email they received that requests for personal information.
